Djokovic Kicks Off 25th Slam Quest with Easy Win

Novak Djokovic continues his relentless pursuit of tennis history, as he commenced his journey towards a record 25th Grand Slam title at the 2024 US Open. The Serbian legend comfortably defeated Moldovan qualifier Radu Albot in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4, in his opening-round match at Flushing Meadows.

Wearing his signature gray sleeve over his surgically repaired right knee, Djokovic appeared untroubled by any lingering effects of his recent injury. Despite the lack of match practice on hard courts, Djokovic’s performance was near flawless, as he controlled the match from start to finish.

With this win, Djokovic has now tied Roger Federer with 89 match victories at the US Open, cementing his place in the tournament’s history. His success comes just weeks after securing an Olympic gold medal, which had previously eluded him.

Djokovic’s performance in the early rounds has set the tone for the rest of the tournament, as he looks to extend his dominance over the tennis world. Having already conquered the tennis landscape, a 25th Grand Slam title would only further elevate his legacy, putting him in an unrivaled position as the greatest of all time.

Up next for Djokovic is a familiar face – his countryman and friend, Laslo Djere. The two Serbians will face off in the second round, with Djokovic aiming to continue his quest for history.
