Al Hilal Close in on Man City's Cancelo

In yet another major transfer involving the Saudi Pro League, Manchester City’s João Cancelo is reportedly on the verge of joining Al Hilal in a deal worth an initial £21 million. According to sources close to ESPN, Cancelo is set to agree to a lucrative contract with the Saudi club, which will see him earn a staggering £15 million per year.

Cancelo, a versatile defender capable of playing both as a full-back and a wing-back, has spent the past 18 months on loan at Bayern Munich and Barcelona, after falling out of favor at Manchester City. Despite his undeniable talent and being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year twice, Cancelo has not featured for City since January 2023.

If completed, Cancelo’s move to Al Hilal would make him the latest high-profile player to move to the Saudi Pro League, following in the footsteps of other big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. The SPL’s continued investment in star players is rapidly elevating its profile on the global stage, and Cancelo’s arrival would further solidify its growing reputation as a top destination for elite footballers.
